Ford Focus starting

Engine turns over but takes a while to start.Once its going its fine not lights or trouble at all.
will start ok when warm, but leave for about twenty mins then try to start will take its time again before it fires up on average has to turn over for about 5 to 10 seconds

when terning over dus the starter moter just spin (making a hige piched wine) or dus it tern the engin realy slow
if its just spining the starter isent hiting 2nd stage so cold do with clening up the contacts?moter if its terning over sowly cheec the batry it cold be under chared a 12v shold achaly have 13.2 v

I have the same problem on a 1.8 TDCI. I have replaced the glow plugs but still have the problem. If you are thinking of doing the same, get them checked before committing to the cost of new plugs.

Looks like the next thing is the starter motor for me.

Just to let you know - replacing the starter motor cured the problem.

It had become sluggish over time and was not turning the engine over fast enough for it to fire up cleanly.

I hope this helps others with the same problem.
