Ford Focus power loss

Car: Ford Focus
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Intermittent problem, happens if car is cold or hot.
sudden loss of power, engine will still tick over normally but any attempt to use acceleratoris met with following actions.

Engine will rev up to approx 2000 and then down to 1000 and keeps doing this. If you come off the accelerator it drops to idle speed and idles comfortably.

Tried once to force the issue by keeping foot on accelerator, after couple of minutes white smoke poured out of the exhaust.

currently only fix is to turn engine off, wait 5/10 minutes and when car starts its ok. There is no warning lights and a full diagnostic has raised no errors

Surprised no fault codes stored .White smoke is caused by raw, un-burnt fuel passing into the exhaust stream. Common causes include:
· Incorrect fuel injection timing
· Defective fuel injectors
· Low cylinder compression
. Water in fuel

Assuming no coolant loss

Try a different garage,
yours sound like "code readers"
guys that plug the scanner in and check for faults,
you need someone that checks the live data,
Specifically the injector correction values.
Isn't there a local Bosch diesel specialist near you?

it sounds like an injector fault but could also be air doser problem or even a fault with egr or airflow meter a proper diagnostic check with parameter measurements is required as rightly said by 1/4 drive
