Ford Focus engine spins but doesn't fire

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.6 LX (Mk1 Hatch)
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My focus has been running alright until recently and started cutting out when clutch pressed.
I jumped in earlier and the engine spins better doesn't fire as if the starter isn't engaging. Not sure if this could starter motor, crank sensor or cam sensor playing up.
Im looking for guidance on how to change the sensors and the location of the starter motor

You need to get it scanned for fault codes as could be a sensor as you describe,if it,s turning over but not firing,or check to see what it,s not getting I.e. Spark, fuel, compression.

Hmm?
not sure what you mean,
but don't start throwing random parts at it.
I'd say you need to establish if the spark plugs are sparking when your cranking.
that's critical,
if not it could be the CAS but cutting out when the clutch is pressed might be a fault with the flywheel,
the CAS gets it's signals from the phonic wheel on the flwheel.
the air gap between the CAS and wheel is critical.
If you have a scan tool concentrate on the engine RPM signal.

Checked the cam belt ?

Good point on the cambelt, timing side as I have had a couple of cars where the fan belt has shredded and caused the bottom pulley to move out as it's not keyed, purely a tapered fit, basically the timing jumps slightly, car will not rev cleanly and sounds like the cat is blocked, whitenghames post reminded me of this.
