My grateful thanks to poster of the suggested problem. I would have loved for it to have been that but my dealer have advised me I need a new gearbox and it is going to cost me a shocking £2,900.
I have not told them to go ahead yet as they have not actually told me what has gone wrong, just said there is a problem in the gearbox and the only solution is to replace it so I have asked for the detail.
Seriously, am I wrong to be so totally shocked and outraged that a 2006 reg car which has been well looked after, regularly serviced and one careful owner/driver, less than 70k on the clock needs a new auto gearbox?
I really do not know what to do. Is it worth it? Should I just trade it in or sell it to someone who would be able to work on it themselves and buy another car? I cannot afford a new car at all, cannot even really afford the 3k repair cost in all honesty, just sunk all my money into my house :( ... this could not have happened at a worse time.
The guy at the Ford dealership has quietly suggested it may not be worth doing but guys, my car is IMMACULATE, (could have easily sold on for 5k, maybe more before this)is he trying to tell me something? I hear whispers about CVT (is that right) My car is a CVT, this seems to be an issue. Ford do not fit them any more. Because they were trouble. But Ford will not talk to anyone as luckless as me who has bought an expensive special edition that has failed in its teenage years from a faulty manufacture....
...Sigh, I am offered 12 months warranty on a new gearbox. If this gearbox is as problematic as I am starting to suspect, 30k miles later I could be in the same boat. I have asked for a negotiation on this cost as I am a loyal customer of many years of Ford. Will find out Monday what they will bring to the table.
Another ramble, sorry all, but I really need some help, do I bite the bullet and pay 3k for a replacement gearbox? Do I trade it in and buy another Ford as the dealer is trying to suggest I do, or do I try and sell it as is to someone out there as a project?
