Ford Focus rev counter over accelerates

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.6 Petrol
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hello, right recently I have notice a problem with my car. When I drive around from 1st – 2nd – 3rd gears etc there is a problem. The rev counter shoots up when changing though the gears it goes up really fast to around 4.000rpm and im not over acceleration the pedal. It is due a service in a couple off weeks and the car has done 78.000 miles, I have also been told the cam belt will need changing soon. Any views anybody?

hi there, the focus suffers from instrument clock faults. normally the first to mess around is the rev counter, then the ignition and ABS lamps flicker, the speedo will read wrong. its an internal problem with the clocks. this is common to ford and the solution is to go to ford and have them replace it. other garages may say they can do it but the unit has to be coded to the car for it to work through the immobilizer. timing belts are usually 100,000 miles or 10 years for petrol engine less for a diesel. but do check!!!
the over revving could also be a faulty clutch.
hope this helps
