Ford Focus slow to start in mornings.

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: 1.8 tddi
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Ok, Im used to a landrover with glowplugs that never worked, on a cold morning it would turn twice and clunk into action.

However this focus of mine, the glow light on the dash comes on, then goes out and I turn it over for about 4 seconds, nothing. Leave it a moment, try again, turn over for 4 seconds or so (sometimes it will start) then usually the third try is the charm.

Once its been running you can turn it off and it starts fine on the button.

It is getting cold now could it just be that its due to the cold? Maybe a glowplug isn't up to scratch? Whats the most likely cause?

Im not too sure how much a dodgy glowplug can affect these engines, becasue, as I said im used to a tractor or a landrover which could cope with anything and start.

Any clues? Would be nice to think its just the cold!.. either that or the mornings.. it seems only to be mornings...

All resolved, the fuel return hoses were totally knackered and leaking.

Replaced the hoses now she starts on the button. :)
