Ford Focus help is my car viable drinking coolant and makes horrid noise when turning off ignition

Car: Ford Focus
Variant: st170
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I brought this car a while back and when turning the car off at first there was a very quiet noise coming from the engine bay like a sucking noise, it has got loader since and the garage i brought it from have been useless they were ment to fix it but it has come back exactly the same i have also noticed the car is drinking coolant i literally have to fill it up with coolant every other day, i have taken it to fords and the guy said the noise is coming from the inlet manifold and that the cost would be about £225 to fix which i thought far enough i will see he also mentioned that it could be something else connected to manifold but that would be bad news if it was that (have not a clue what part he was on about for bad news) i then took it to a well respected garage in my local town for a second opinion and he has said i'm looking more on the £1200 mark as the engine must have baked at some time for it to be the way it is, Hope someone can give me some idea sorry to be a bit vague and go on, but any help will be grately recieved

Using lots of coolent can be due to a blown gasket, if the car has excessively overheated at any point. considering a second hand engine may be the cheapest option.
