Ford Focus flashing red light at left hand corner of speedo

A red light has just started flashing at bottom left hand corner of speedo. The manual that comes with the car does not tell me what it relates to. The garage don't know either and I have to book it in for a full diagnostic in 3 days time. I need to know if car is safe to drive mean time!

That's the whole point there is no picture its just a round bulb that is flashing red!!
