Ford Focus lack of general power

my car does not like to go over 70 mph and struggles uphill and just like a general lack of power and i looked at the oil cap to see if there was n e gunk to indacate a head gasket problem but no gunk so not sure what it can be it is a little smokey to start but thats cus is cold i spose bit un shore and would like to no if n e 1 nows what it might be or if n e 1 has had this problem

Have you had the timing belt replaced ? If not would be advisable to get done asap . An old belt may have jumped causing timing to be out .Could also test compressions .Re spark plug intervals ,plugs nowadays dont need changing as often i,e .

Ford says 100K and if you have 100K on your plugs you have wasted engouh fuel to buy 2 sets of plugs!(and this is under perfect conditions of the mechanical condition of the engine but, they start to become inefficient way before that! (the firing voltage requirement increases and then that starts to burn-up the rest of the ignition system up (wires, coil packs etc.) I Would replace @ 60K, They are right there (it isn't like they are under the intake plenum)

Answer:

According to the owners manual, they have platinum plugs that should be changed at 100,000 miles.
