hi in the last week of driving my car when i put the accelerator down my revs go high up as if i have my clutch in and eccelertating (which i havent) and there is no speed for ages and then i can smell a burning smell its not all the time i can smell burning tho.....iv been told by freinds that it could be my clutch and also a mechanic aswell but dont want to pay for new clutch untill i know it is the clutch....can any one help please cheers..

Sounds like classic symptoms of a slipping clutch .

does that mean that i would need a new full clutch if you dont mind me asking..cheers

Best to replace the whole lot in one go, rather than strip it down at a later date...

If it'slipping , you probably wont have any alternative but to relace complete assembly due to wear . Very few decent garages or mechanics would fit one part of clutch as opposed to kit .If you keep on using car you could end up needing a new flywheel also .
