Ford Fiesta jerks on pull off

Car: Ford Fiesta
Variant: 1.4 Climate
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,

I have a Ford Fiesta 1.4 Climate Manaul.

When ever I start the engine and try to pull off my car start to jolt and the rev counter goes up and down violently.

If I have to reverse from starting I get the same jolt but also a smell of petrol.

My car passed it's MOT and Full Service in June 2011.

It has done 42,000 miles, bought it in August 2010 when it had done 14,000 miles.

Does anyone have any ideas?

When you say that the rev counter goes up and down, I assume you also mean that the engine revs rise and fall at the same time?

Check for a faulty air mass sensor. The smell of petrol when you reverse may be simply because exhaust fumes are being brought into the cabin through the cabin vents at the rear of the car, as you reverse through the fumes.
