Ford Fiesta starting & idling problem

Car: Ford Fiesta
Variant: 1.4 tdi
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i have difficulty starting my car (ford fiesta 1.4 tdi diesel 2003)after it has been stationary for a period of time i.e. in the morning after being parked up all night, when it eventually starts it emits a puff of white smoke from exhaust and then idles very roughly, it seems to be missing at idle and low revs, however at high speed it is not noticeable.
I have drained fuel, cleaned fuel lines, changed fuel filter and had timing checked, still no luck. I have always had the car serviced and it has full service history, the car has 60k mileage.

Thanks in advance for any help given

i've been having the same problem. i did check the spark plugs and they were alright. the coil and the cables also.
i've heard the crankshaft sensor might something to do with this...
another thing my car does is spreading a gas smell while is trying to start which makes me think there's a lack of spark somewhere...

any help? my car has gone to like 5 workshops and none of them had been able to repair it
