Ford Fiesta rubbing noise when turning steering wheel and heavy steering

my fiesta has started making a strange rubbing noise when i turn the wheel,almost as if something is caught in it!the steering also feels slightly heavier than before,anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Could be power steering pump on it's way out .Check the universal joint coupling at the bottom of the steering column also .
