Ok try this (presuming you have a mk4 1.25 zetec engine)
The ECU may have faults stored in it so you can re-set the ECU. To do this turn the engine off, open the bonnet and find the fuse box located at the back on the passenger side. Remove fuse 32 (its the 3amp one the diagram is located on the lid of the fuse box). Leave it out for around five minutes and then put it back in. Then start the car and leave it idleing for 3-4 minutes so that it can relearn the idle value. Then take it on a drive of around ten miles (but no less than seven). This should consist of varying speeds and loads on the engine. This will alow the ECU to relearn itself. If it is of your persuasion to drive fast DONT for at least 100 miles.
Others suggest this , but if doing it you will have to recode your radio .
" My local garage did the same solution . They disconnected the battery for 1/2 an hour to reset the EEC memory. Apparantly this makes it re-learn the settings that it needs to manage the engine.
It certainly works of my 1.3 Fiesta. "
