Probably a dud bulb . The bulb is usually a double filament which works both dip / main bean

bulbs are fine....I even bought a NEW headlight....tried that....exact same....the front light (right hand side) switches off when the full beam is switched on.

If dipped beams work and then light goes of when main beam switched on , check earth / ground and wiring at lamp socket .

ok,...I tried a whole new headlight bought from a spare parts dealer. exact same problem....swopped all the relays for him/low beam...still the same!
Why would high beam not work but normal beam works as it should...surely the same earth !!
Obviously; thanks for your thoughts !!

High beam uses more power . You seem to know all the answers and I'm wasting my time trying to help you resolve the mater . Hope you get it fixed .

Thanks. Hope Im not offending you. I know basically how these work.. but how can it be an earthing fault if 2 different light units have been tried ( not just the bulbs) but the whole light armature? Im just trying to understand how it could be an earthing problem! If the dimmed light works properly, then i guess the full beam should work tio even though it takes more power !! Or ??

Last on this .
" how can it be an earthing fault if 2 different light units "
Nothing to do with the unit but the plug / connector / wiring up to and connecting at unit .
Test the unit and lights off the car to verify all o.k there and then back trace the fault from there .

Never heard of " light armature " in all my years with cars . can only assume you mean complete lamp unit .

Yes, its a unit i guess. ☺️ the whole right hand side light unit.
Will test with an extra earth cable. Have even swopped the relays. Since there is 3 of the same in the fuse unit area behind the glove box
