Ford Fiesta noisey top end

Car: Ford Fiesta
Variant: 1.8 diesel endura de
Model Year: 1998
Categories: Leaks & Noises
when I first start up in the morning there is what I can best discribe as a creaking pinging rattle like metal against metal on the cambelt side the engine top end this only lasts for a few seconds then it goes there is also a knocking sound in the background of the usual diesel tickover that me as the owner of the car notice.I have listened with a screw driver but can not pinpoint the sound. This has been increasing in loudness from when it started about 8 months ago and semms to get no louder over the last few months, but to be more informative it was loudest in cold winter weather.I did change the belt and bearings at 46,000miles now there,s 73,000 on the clock.
I felt it may be a bearing thats collapsing but this is just an idea any other ideas would be most welcome.

sounds like the tappets want adjusting or replacing due to wear may be even he hydraulics lifters if its got them but not sure on the newer diesel engines that is all can think it could be at the moment could even cure it with a good flush and oil change if you havnt already done so
