Ford Fiesta reverse light not working properley

my fiesta reverse light seemed to only work sometimes.i changed the bulb and checked for loose wires,still the same though,works when it wants.somebody mentioned a reverse switch and i,ve seen pics of these on ebay.are they located in gearbox and is it big job or not?
