master push rod slipping of clutch pedal how is it kept in place(sorry legend it was my first ever post I got a bit flustered with the part names etc)

I got an answer to this problem yesterday from whittinghame ,I got the small clip does it look like a washer with 4 small flange like things facing inward....I put push rod back on put clip on but there does not appear to be any grove for it to pop into does it have to be tapped right up as far as it will go
