Is it perhaps the clutch master cyl push rod coming of clutch pedal ?

yes it would be master push rod coming of clutch pedal.....ps my first ever question and not being mechanically minded I was getting a bit flustered with the names of the parts

No problem , we all make mistakes and easy to get mixed up with the names of parts .The clutch push rod coming off the pedal is a known and common fault on that car .It is easily fixed by fitting a small clip onto the end of pedal shaft . Clip costs pennies from Ford parts dept. and just pushes on , two min job . You can make temp repair by fitting a tie strap round it . Hope this helps , if you need any more help get back to forum .
