Ford Escort noisey driver

My Escort is very noisey to drive. have had wheels balanced and tracking checked but noise continues.No vibration on steering.Engine ticks over ok.Apart from noise,car is running fine.Just done 800 miles on holiday.
Any suggestions?

Is it a noise from engine or running gear? does it get louder the faster you drive? Have you had different tyres fitted recently?
