Ford Escort smoking/enging ticking/grinding noise

Hello, My gti has recently bin mot'd and the mot garage caught the exhaust on the ramp when bringing it off they said id need to new front pipe bolts which i havn't yet put on however would this make my car smoke ALOT, and make a grinding noise it is also using alot of oil and when there is a small amount of oil in it the engine ticks (like a mk3 fiesta) almost like the tappets are going but once oils topped up this stops :S

Please help i don't no what to do

no bumping the exhaust would not cause the engine to smoke rattle or cause agrinding noise but running the engine low on oil will cause all of these symtoms top the oil up using 5w30 oil as this is what you need for the zetecs if it is still burning oil and making grinding noises then you are going to be looking at a rebuild or another engine unfortanatly as the damage is done
