Ford Escort high revs

I have a 96 escort that drives normaly under 3000 revs, but if you go over 3000 revs and change gear or depress the clutch the revs do not drop down. any ideas as to the problem.

suspect throttle pot issues or mass air flow sensor. would recomend a diagnostic check first. could just be a simple air leak... hope this helps

check the vac pipes at the rear left hand of the engine, if their ok would suspect mass air flow sensor

the problem here is the idle speed control valve is carboned up and will require a clean the best way is to remove it of the car and soak it in petrol and work the intelnal moving parts until as clean as you can get it and just refit in reverse order hope this helps
