Ford Cougar hand brake lever

PULLING THE LEVER UP IT I WILL NOT ALWAYS LATCH. AND IF IT GETS A KNOCK IT UN LATCHES TO EASILY. IS THERE A ADJUSTMENT I NEED TO DO OR IS IT A TOTAL REPLACEMENT?

Usually the ratchet and pawl that wears , requiring new hand brake . If it's coming up high you could try adjusting the h/brake cables so that it may stop on a part not as well worn
