Ford C-MAX transmission limited function

Information light comes on saying transmission limited functional after reading this the message does disappear. Car then runs in limp mode. But it runs fine if engine turned off for few minutes then turned back on. This has happened twice in a month. It is an automatic transmission.

Needs scanned for fault codes before whatever is triggering the light develops further and possibly causing damage
