Fiat Punto electrical power steering fault

Car: Fiat Punto
Variant: 1.2 sport
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Turning a corner into work this morning the electrical power steering fault light came on and steering got heavy. Was able to park up ok though. Rang garage to take in for check, had to drive it about half a mile, the light never came on once and the steering was fine. Is this an intermittent fault, or one that will get worse with time?? Understand the replacement part electrical motor with ecu will be extremely expensive from fiat themselves, any advice on where to buy part if necessary please.

As it is EHPS on that car ,sometimes the alternator can cause probs. with steering .Might be worth checking with meter .Hope this helps .
