Fiat Punto knocking from cam shaft

Car: Fiat Punto
Variant: 1.1 55s
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
ok at first it sounded like there was insufficient oil getting to the top of the engine so i decided to drain the old oil out and flush it with an oil flush after finishing this the knocking was still there so i looked at the tappets and shims to see if they were warn but nope they seem fine
the noise is coming from the cam sprocket which the cam belt goes around now.... when i applied pressure to the cam sprocket with a screwdriver (pushing it in )the noise stops ??? is this a bearing that needs to be changed

not 100% sure but think you will need a new cam carrier box this is what supports the cam but have a word with the dealers and look on there microfiche computer parts system for a clearer picture of what you will need

and what is the cam carrier ??? is that the head its self ?? as that is where the cam is sitting ??

yes the cam carrier is what holds the cam in place and is bolted down with the headbolts it wont be a straight forward job to fix

so just replace the head ?? straight forward job :) just like doing a head gasket
did it before took me about 30 mins so not to bad then
suppose my main problem now is to find a head :(

sorted no oil getting to head before the flush
so had to change the cam ,shims, shells, and cam holders front middle and end
car now sounds sweet and oil is flowing to head nicely :)
