Fiat Punto rear light block party

Car: Fiat Punto
Variant: 1.2 5 door active
Model Year: 2003

Hi, I have recently been experiencing a strange problem with my rear light blocks having a party on my mk2 punto.

If I indicate left my brake light glows (flashing) and I get the warning light on the dash. If I brake, the indicator glows slightly and I get the same warning light, Also when I break with the main beam on the engine revs seem to drop ever so slightly (perhaps by about 20rpm, not enough to see on the rev counter but enough to easily hear)

Previously if I was indicating and breaking at the same time the problem would seem to go away and the light would disappear off the dash, But recently the indicator had started rapid flashing.

The problems are all intermittent and seem to occur more often in cold/damp weather

Is this just an earth fault and something which can be fixed with a little wire wool in an hour or so on a night. Or is it something which need specialist attention? Also can anyone explain why it would behave so strangely?

Could try earths but may be fault on rear lamp bulb holders / panels / clusters.

So I took a look at it this weekend. I removed the light cluster and I found a layer of corrosion on the connector between the light cluster and the earth (none on any other connections) I cleaned it up with some wire wool and looked inside the light cluster as well (which although it was rust free, there was some residual metal left from the manufacture process which I bent back just to be safe although it's very unlikely that that was the cause of the problem. I also bent the female connector inwards a little to provide a more firm connection to the male connector.

Problem solved, now the problem is that the lights on the left side are ever so slightly brighter than the lights on the right lol. I think I might repeat the process on the right hand cluster next weekend :)

Thanks for the help :)
