Fiat 500 speedo

Car: Fiat 500
Variant: scudo
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi, I have a problem with the speedo on my 2001 fiat scudo, the speedo doesnt work most of the time I have fitted a new sender(on top of diff)checked the gear in the sender (shows no wear) and got a replacement speedo from a scrappy which didnt work either, just occassionally It will work for about half a mile, I realise that the speedo from the scrappy may be faulty but I just cant keep buying them, the wiring seems ok and I have 12v at connection to the sender with ignition on, the only other thing I could think of is the other gear inside the diff, but not convinced it is that and dont want to split the diff unless I'm confident its that?...
anyone come accross this before?... thanks in advance....Paul

hi paul
never owned a fiat. this is also a common fault on early volvo's.
firstly i suggest having a good reliable auto electrician check out the system for you. i know good sparkies are hard to find these days & expensive, but try looking in the ads section of motor mags, & also look for certificates. i know this doesn't guarantee anything but sometimes you just have to give them a chance. secondly don't buy electrical items from scrappies ever again, it's false economy & i hate to hear of people like yourself being ripped of by them.
anyway best of luck mate, let me know how you get on. regards dj dave.

P.S. also don't buy brakes or steering parts from scrappies as the parts are from ( as you must know ) m.o.t. failures, & accident damaged cars, you know what i mean. IT'S YOUR LIFE & OTHERS AT RISK.

Dave, scrappy didnt get to keep my money! I was back next day.... sight of a raving lunatic with a Rottweiler convinced him a refund was in order... but that said Fiat want £600 for new clocks so I'm not so keen on that option either!!!! thanks for your interest... Paul
