Daewoo Kalos please can anyone help? too much power!

Car: Daewoo Kalos
Variant: SX
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
My car has been fine for years but a few weeks ago it developed an intermittent problem.

Occasionally my Daewoo Kalos rev count shoots into overdrive(especially when I put my foot on the cluch to change gear). When the car is misbehaving I have to drive around with my foot on the break (even when on the motorway) to stop it from going over the speed limit. This is not ideal as I have little control over the car and the petrol consumption rockets, as well as worrying me that I am damaging the car.

The check engine light came on and the garage I took it to said it was the map sensor (after he hooked it up to the diagnostic machine). However as the car was behaving at that point he cleared the fault and told me to bring it back if it did it again. When the car repeated the probelm I called the garage back I was told it isn't the map sensor (as the fault light hasn't come back on) and he need to perfom several hours worth of tests at £80+ per hour! Needless to say I have lost confidence in that garage!

The car doesn't not do this all the time and once parked and the engine is swtiched off for some time it appears to go back to normal. However the fault does appear to be increasing in frequency and I want this fixed asap.

You need to check or clean IAC ( idle air control ) valve / throttle body .

My mother purchased a 2003 Kalos a few weeks ago, from day one it has had an intermittent jerk, feels like it's losing power as your driving, then suddenly will lurch forward. The rev counter also on occassion jumps without warning. Somedays it's worser than others. Anyway took car to my local Daewoo/Chevrolet dealership for an appraisal, they have ran the diagnostic check, and have identified the problem as a defective throttle body, now they have also said that this should cure the problem, if not the ECU might need to be reprogammed. I have been quoted £400 for the throttle body.....ouch!
