Car has done less than 20,000 and is 2. 5 years old. It is used mainly for long journeys. It seems to use third of a litre of oil In 640 miles. The dealer says there are no leaks and the exhaust emissions are OK.

Has it done this since new ? Dont know about that particular vehicle but there were similar complaints with VX 1.6 engines where the manufacturers said that oil consumption pf 1 litre of oil per 1000 mls was the norm and acceptable . Most cars can go a lot more than that nowadays before needing topping up . But seems to be more common on different engines / makes
Here is an example of a Renault Captur owner
"I’ve only done 5000 km in it, but in that time the oil top-up light has come on twice.
The dealer told me that it was acceptable to use half a litre of oil every 1000 km, but that would mean that I would have no oil in the car after travelling 8000 km. They did a test and after about 6500 kilometres my car used one and a half litres of oil and they are saying this is acceptable,"

That would seem to fit in with what I've been told. It's just that my wife has the same car but 2 years older and I never have to top hers up between services but she does do short journeys. Thanks for your help, it least I now know it isn't unusual. Cheers. ?
