Citroen Xsara Picasso engine diagnostic light

car has ran low on fuel a while ago and the enging diagnostic light now on.Car running ok. check of book shows it could be a fuel or ignition issue.Any ideas before i have to pay extortionate price for citreon to put it on a diagnostic machine. Many thnaks to any answers.

most independant garages have diagnostic equipment and will probably be cheaper than the main dealers to get the fault code read, with out the code being read it will be hard to diagnose the specific problem.
