car done 43.000 mls when engined revved stationary, black smoked emitted from exhaust.failed test no smoke when idling sooty exhaust pipe runs great need problem sorting for retest cheers

the exhaust is probably clogged with soot due to short journeys,try putting some fuel system cleaner in the tank and give the car a good long thrash to get the engine hot,check all your intake pipes are not damaged or loose and also check condition of air filter,do you have any fault codes stored

probably have a faulty E G R valve, i take it it is a diesel?

i believe from a mechanic that the the valves need adjusting he said this is a regular fault with picasso xsaras, he owns one. He is going to run a diagnostic test, not a major problem on a lowly mileage car hope this will help other picasso owners in the future .
