Car stopped running. Called Ins Co. breakdown, they sent a mechanic. The guy was obviously genned up ish on Citroens. asked me to turn over the engine while he thumped the fuel tank underneath...car started briefly but stopped again...Disconnected the fuel feed under the bonnet...no fuel....he said it was the fuel pump in the tank.
Bought a "working" fuel pump with month guarantee from breakers, had it fitted, drove 2 kilometres and exactly the same thing. Fuel starvation to the front...thump the tank/pump area brefly starts then stops. Any ideas? Chances of two fuel pumps identical problem possible but slim I think.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. A bit more info...I live in southern Spain and I have a good friend who is also a German, old school mechanic, as opposed to a modern day fitter.
Just phoned him with that option above and he said he has had the second pump out and tested it with a direct 12v feed. dead as a dodo. Now he is stripping the tank out to see if anything in there may stop the pump from work. Also, is it possible that some electrical fault has created an identical problem with the two pumps?
This is my missus's car by the way, I drive a 21 year old Mitsu 4 x 4 with no problems. LOL!
Thanks again.

This is a common fault with these,
And breakers,
if they test them do as your friend did with battery voltage,
Which is next to useless.
The only way to test and be sure is on a 'scope.
From the displayed waveform it can be see if the motor is running as designed,
and even the speed it's turning at.
Without removing the pump.
"IF" your guy has an oscilloscope test it that way.
If not it'd a new pump,
or another 30 day Gntee gambol.
And remember these pumps run all the time the engine is running,

No he doent have an oscilloscope to my knowlege.
I will get on to the other options and return s/h one and buy new in the end.
Thanks.

Would have thought if he had bench tested the pump and it was dead , pump knackered ? I have found foreign objects in tanks blocking the fuel flow but the fuel pump still functioned .Not the first time I've had new parts fail even direct from parts dept . anythings possible .
