Citroen Xsara Picasso automatic gearbox fault

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Variant: 2.0 ltr Auto
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi all. My problem started in January this year. Driving along and Automatic Gearbox Fault appeared on my dash, but drove fine. Happened every day, usually only once. Sometimes there would be a jolt, but at others apart from the dash telling me, I'd be none the wiser. Seemed to be worse in damp/wet weather. Then for the few weeks in the summer it ran fine. Along came colder weather and the problem re-appeared. AGF comes up on every journey now....sometimes jolting, but you can hear it struggling to change gear. From once it happens, the power seems to drop, ie: crap acceleration. Also, I drop my Son off at school, and when he opens the door to get out, AGF again shows up on my dash.......and sometimes the rear windscreen wiper goes off at the same time???? It has been on a diagnostics 3 times - Nothing!! Just wish I knew what was wrong. Driving me mad. Thanks

Some strange faults there .Simple things to check would be the gearbox oil level , broken wiring where it passes into door from pillar and at rear tailgate where it passes through at top .

Thanks for that. Do you mean for me to check the transmission fluid level? If so, I don't know how to as I have a sealed gearbox. I'll get the wiring checked though and see if there's any link to the faults.

Almost sure normal OBD reader / diagnostic wont be able to check gearbox out and you probably will need to get it scanned with a Peugeot/Citroen device (Lexia 2000) and this will relate to the oil level also .

Ok, thanks. I am constantly 'googling' this, and it refers a lot to the EGR Valve. Do you think this could be the cause? A lot of people seem to unplug/disconnect theirs, but for the life of me I cant seem to locate mine, just want to see if my car runs any better with it disconnected. I would gladly have it replaced/repaired if that was definitely going to solve the problem. Thanks again for your help.
