Citroen Xsara Picasso car over heating and won't start

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hello i was wondering if someone could please help!

My car was making a screeching sound when i stopped, eventually the warning light stop over heating sign come on. I took it to a garage where he changed the coolant sensor was changed, new coolent replaced. But the problem was still happening so foumd out the fan was burnt out so replaced that, but the stop overheating sign come on still. The computer come up with many faults but wasn't sure exactly what it was saying, i still drove about as the new fan was kicking in and the car was not hot even though it said it was. Now they believe its a faulty electronic dashboard and now my car won't start something keeps draining my battery.

Nothing been left on, i thought it could be the starter motor but thats been all tested they only thing left is that its the dashboard being at fault.

Anyway anyone can help I'd be much appreciated many thanks

I would change my garage if I were you , especially if they cant diagnose the fault codes .If a car is in for overheating and the sensor and coolant were replaced , it should have been checked to see if coolant fan was kicking in before being handed back to the customer ,I could be wrong , but think on that year they are two sensors fitted .(You dont say what engine )You may need to carry out a parasitic drain test to find what is running down battery .The screeching noise could be belt noise or could be the alternator .If alternator is failing under load , battery will run down as it's not being charged .With all the problems and not starting ,might be worth a check at cambelt also .Watch you dont get too deep financially into repairing car if they cant diagnose the faults and start throwing parts on .

From Haynes Service and repair manual.

1.On all models a single electric cooling fan is fitted mounted in a shroud located between the
front bumper and the radiator, or between the bumper and air conditioning condenser as applicable.
2. On vehicles without a/c, the fan is a single speed on petrol engine models and two speed on diesel engine models.
On vehicles with a/c, initially a two speed fan was used for petrol engine models and three speed fan for diesel engine models.
From the 2001 model year, all models equipped with air conditioning were fitted with a three speed fan.
3.On all except early 1.6 litre petrol engine models, the operation of the cooling fan is controlled by the engine management ECU
(and air conditioning system control unit, where applicable) using coolant temperature information supplied by a coolant sensor
mounted in the coolant outlet housing. On early 1.6 litre petrol engine models, a separate thermal switch, mounted in the cylinder head was used to control
the fan. From 2001 model year this arrangement was replaced by engine management ECU control, in line with all other models.

Thank you for you reply, sorry if i sounded confusing.

The screeching stopped after we had the fan replaced, they know what the faults are but i haven't asked. I thought/ hoped the problem would off been solved by now as a new fan was replaced so thought the stop overheating sign would stop but it didn't. The sign would come on within 2 mintues of driving.

The pollution warning light is continuously on (something to do with fuel ingestion) and i had to rev it start it in the morning, now it won't start at all and now the seat belt light is continuously on.

Apologies if I'm making no sense, and again appreciate any help.

Without getting the known faults rectified , especially now we know the pollution warning light is continuously on also , not a lot I can suggest further to help .Could check the wiring / connections under the seat in regard to seat belt warning .

I found out that if the old faults haven't been deleted and cleared it will continue to to read them and may add them i have broughy one so i am going to gigive this ago myself.

I also don't think the thermostat been checked or changed when the sensor was done, if anyone knows how i can test this by myself or any tips on how to take it out I'd bemost greatful.
