Citroen Xsara Picasso stop engine temp warning light comes on in traffic

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Variant: 1.6 manual
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Temp guage reads 2 bars but then if any time spent at a standstill stop engine warning light comes on. If you turn blower on full light goes off again and temp guage still shows just 2 bars. Difficult to tell if electric fan is working as buried behind grille.

The fan resistors are a common fault , this is the only diagram showing them I can find just now .
