Citroen Xsara Picasso brake lights comeing on intermittent

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Variant: diesil 2.0hdi
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Just had a second hand engine put in about 3weeks ago running sweet as a nut,but just previous to the change I had a problem with the brake switch. I would be driving in the outside lane on motorway and the engine would die from 70 to maybe 45 or 50 all of a sudden, most dangerous. Since the engine change I'v had another brake switch changed, yes 3rd time lucky? no now when I dip the cluch the brake lights come on as well as coming on intermittently. I'v been told that when the lights come on its not possible to accelerate.Any help out there appreciated, could it be an earthing problem?

Check that your clutch pedal is not fouling any wiring when pressed.

It might just be coincidence, but there does seem to be a link between the brake lights sticking on, and loss of power.

Garages have consistently advised me that the two situations are not linked in any way, and have "fixed" the issues separately - ie turning off the 'stuck on' brake lights (something to do with the pedal?) and addressing fuel filter/air filter/air mass filter for the poor performance of the car.

Yet every time the poor performance problem comes back (it feels like the car is pulling back, suddenly sluggish, lack of umph from the gas pedal), the brake lights sticking on problem seems to come back at the same time!

Any thoughts?
