Speedo starts to work then goes to zero then works then goes to zero! Looked at the fuse but that looks fine, any suggestions of what is causing this and it has only started today.

Check speed sensor / wiring .This from Piccaso forum may help you .

Here's some info on the speed pulse......
Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDi 2004 speed pulse

Engine compartment:

Original speed sensor on gearbox 3-way white connector position 3, colour can vary (wire-nr.6738)
or 16-way black connector in fuse box position 14, colour can vary (wire-nr. 6738)
or place an original sensor on the gearbox: the 3-way connector is prepared

Passenger compartment:

Yellow 26-way connector on BSI module position 2 green
or since late 2002: 2-way black connector near steering column position 2 white (wire-nr. 856), becomes purple if wired;
ATTENTION SINCE 2004: WITH ESP WITHOUT GPS-NAVIGATION there might NOT be a signal on this 2-way connector: place an original sensor on the gearbox;
about 5000 pulses/km

with the use of Can Bus Interface:

CAN Highspeed:
brown (CAN High) twisted with purple (CAN Low) in bundle in front of Board Computer.

Hope this helps.
