Citroen Xantia engine whining

Car: Citroen Xantia
Variant: Diesel Estate Exclusive
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The engine has a whining noise coming from cambelt side of engine, I think it is coming from the auxillary belt drive and have changed the alternator, this has slightly improved the symptom but the whine is still there. Could it be the automatic belt tensioner and if so how difficult is it to remove and replace. Do you have any other suggestions.

Could well be the tensioner / bearing as you suggest . Wouild be advisable to get it checked out before it develops into smething bigger .

I have had the same noise and i found it by removing the drive belt and turning the pulleys in turn. The noise i had was coming from the aux pulley just underneath the main lhm pump.
