Citroen C5 engine cut-out wont start

Car: Citroen C5
Variant: 1.6 HDI Tourer
Model Year: 2010
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Waiting at traffic lights engine suddenly cut out. Tried to restart, engine turning over but not firing, no warnings/codes appearing on dash. Tried starting after 10 and 20 minutes but no luck. Car towed to garage where a full service and new fuel filter had been inserted 2 days previously (as well as 4 new brake pads!), so assumed it was air lock or something similar. Garage looking into it, say number of faults...mass air flow meter fault, fuel pump fault... Have only driven 40km (25 miles!) since service.

Anyone any ideas.

Should these have been picked up at service or could this have been caused by service?

I never like pointing the finger at any garage. Some are excellent, some not. Not sure what they are implying by "...number of faults..."
However, considering the work carried out just prior to the problems occurring, you have to wonder if they are connected. IF they are; are they going to admit it? If they aren`t then lets hope its something simple.
Can`t really offer a solution. see what they say and take it from there. As ever, be polite but firm and you could get a second opinion-not easy if the cars not running, but maybe an option.
Best of luck.

could be air leak at fuel filter strange how it happened so soon after service in tank fuel pump could have failed this used to be common on citroen peugeot models you should be able to hear this run when ignition turned on for a few seconds i assume fuel cut of switch has not been acctivated check hand book for location usually found under bonnet near bulkhead push down to re-set

Have been told by garage that it is an EGR valve problem and it needs to be replaced. They have given me two options a genuine Citroen part or a Mazda part, the only difference between them being the badge on them and about 40% of the cost (Citroen€450, Mazda €180). I have rang a few motor factors and none believe that a Mazda part will suffice.

The garage is a Mazda and Citroen dealer...

Is it possible to use the Mazda part in the Citroen?

Did a bit of horse trading with garage as I felt they were partly responsible for egr valve going within 2 days of a service that involved fiddling with fuel system...

Found a genuine citroen egr valve on offer from a citroen dealer at €300+vat (i'm in ireland hence euros..). Garage said they will match that price and fit it free. Considering they did tow the car 15 miles to their garage and spent the best part of a day and a half diagnosing the problem I think a fair result all round.

Thanks all for your advice
