Citroen C4 power failure

I was reversing off the drive this morning and suddenly the power cut out. No heating either. Nothing happened when I tried turning the key again. After a minute I put my hazards on (as I was sticking out into the road - at least they worked ok) and then turned the engine completely off, waited, then turned it back on again. It worked this time, but it was saying 'place auto' on the dash. Then that disappeared and I drove to work fine.

Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks
