Citroen C3 engine wont run

when I try to start car it splutters then starts then stops with a terrific thump the whole car shakes, before this happened , the last time I could drive it I got about 1km before it stoped and it is just sitting in my carport. also another prob. I went out last night in the dark and noticed my lights were on, so I disconnected the battery . can anyone help, thanks

the c3 is 1.6ltr and I use unleaded fuel , I live in australia

Try unplugging the coolant temperature sensor,
If this is faulty it "could" be putting it on choke as it were.
Unplugging it will make the ECU substitute a value for it.
But a better bet would be getting a "Global Scan" done with Citroen's own diagnostics.
This will test all the modules on your car including the Comms unit responsible for lights control.

Right side of the block there's the thermostat housing,
Sensor is on top.
Googling for images pulls up a few helpful ones.

I can get car to start , but only idles 500/550 rpm I replaced spark plugs , can you please help thanks shreder
