Citroen C3 no action turning ignition

Car: Citroen C3
Variant: Desire
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Pulled over passenger window down to ask directions, then engine stopped. On trying to go again ignition key turning but nothing happens. Battery working ok (lights, locking ok) but window still down and not working and electrical smell from engine but no signs of burning.
Local garage and auto electrician unable to resolve says Citroen main dealer only people who can sort.
What could it be ? and therefore cost to repair ?
Help Thanks

Checked for overcharging alternator which would " cook " battery and give electrical smell ?

If you had ever seen a Citroen or Peugeot workshop wiring diagram you would have a more clear idea of just what your asking.
I mean the buggers don't even use colour wire codes!
Alpha numerical codes for the wire and terminal ending,
It takes some getting used to not to mention understanding.
For a start I'd not only need to know the full VIN,
Or the engine size,
engine type,
Fuel type,
And a whole series or numbers from the white sticker on the inner door pillar before I could even access the right Citroen wiring diagram.
Phew!
So maybe now you can understand how most mechanics are reluctant to get involved.
Anyhoo,
Everything is run through and is controlled by the Body Systems Interface,
BSI for short.
And my guess is that's burnt out.
And it's mounted under the bonnet.
And is accessed by the Citroen Lexia diagnostic program.
Once in the tech can override commands and Initiate electrical functions like say the wipers,
Check the command input and command output function signals and see if the wiper get the command and wipe for example.
This isolates just where the fault is.
So it's Citroen diagnostics or some other VERY expensive platforms that can do this so it's never going to be cheap.
Plus they would have find out what caused the BSI to fail as just fitting a new one could result in that one burning out too.
and they're coded to the vehicle.
Sorry to be the bearer as it were............
There is a website called "BBAREMAN,
Go to the forum
But the guys there are less than tolerant of "civilians" as it were.
Don't go asking what you have asked here!
State your car make/year/engine size and fuel type .
The problem symptoms and work done so far and ask if there is anybody near you that can help.
There are some real smart Techs that answer on the forum but they're patience is stretched by people looking for magic bullet fixes.
This is a professional forum!!!!
And I restate,
YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY LOCAL TO REPAIR THIS CAR.
You are not trying to fix it yourself.
And one of these big brains "might/may" be able to direct you to specialist that you can contact for repair.
Not to belabour the point but some of these guys are really REALLY impatient.
BUT I've also seen them go way out of there way to help with multiple posts and advice.
Give the forum a try and it might be there's a specialist just along the road from you.
Or it's Citroen.
Phew,
Long post!
Hope it helps.

sorry but there is a little inaccuracy in your post 1/4 drive. The built in systems interface is not mounted under the bonnet, but the bm34 is. I would check the fuses In there ,from memory there is a 25 amp fuse which is for the starter circuit and has been missed on many an occasion when diagnosing a starter fault. Water can also get into the BM34 from the washer pump and also a faulty coolant thermistor, the result being an electrical smell and faults.I hope this helps as a first port of call so to speak
