Citroen C3 gets stuck in gear then doesn't restart for up to an hour

Hi this car is an automatic with gear paddles also, and has had this problem for a year when you drive the display suddenly changes from showing the gears to showing 2 lines and the car will then continue to drive until you come to a stop at this point it will not pull off and when you switch the car off it does not start straight away and sometimes has to stand for up to an hour, we have taken it to several garages all citroen experts who have checked for faults, it shows none we have had repairs done like accelarator sensor, new battery, connections all cleaned and checked, etc but everytime we come away from a garage it works fine for about a week and then the problem comes back the advice from the garage is to sell it because it will cost too much to keep looking for the problem it started doing this randomly and now it is so bad that it will do this every 2 to 5 miles of driving, any ideas will be very helpful

i have the same problem
where i wil drive normally only to stop at a light or roundabout in 1st gear, then the --- appears on the display and i cant do anything else, changing from auto to manual doesn't cure the problem or enable me to shift gears, i had to sit for 30 mins on a dual carriage until by luck i tried it again and no problem gears appeared and i proceeded with some trepidation,
I bought this car 2 weeks ago for my wife and wished i hadnt as the seller must have known of this issue, as consequently it has started to deteriorate and get worst, i had to sit 1 hr yesterday, not knowing if it would ever even start as the solenoid clicked once and nothing else?
[****], i am afraid to even drive 5 mins in the damn thing.
Its in a local garage for checks [i did have it checked first day the garage connected a analyzer kit and read nothing wrong with the vehicle no error codes or anything now i am eating my hat in believing what i was told?` if i get any update on this problem will update here.
in the mean time if any one have had joy with this do let me know
