Citroen C3 loud tapping noise

I have had the car for about a month and have been very happy but recently have started to hear a loud tapping noise coming from the engine area and also a smell of diesel coming through the air vents.Car starts and runs ok and i cannot find any visual defect on the surface. Any help would be appreciated

sounds like an injector seal has failed so combustion gases are leaking past it.check around your injectors and you will probably see a build up of carbon.
