Citroen C2 oil in coolant

Car broke down last night. I’m not sure if it’s cam belt or a engine fail. Last year I was told the head gasket was on its way out but no milky oil or any symptoms. I’m at a standstill what’s happening

You dont always get emulsified ( milky ) oil if head gasket leaks , can get blown out exhaust , dependent where it's gone . The only way you will find the cause is to start checking it out . Check oil , water , if engine cranks over ,see if camshaft is turning through the oil filler cap

Thanks for you’re reply. I’ve been told it’s the cam belt and depends on if any valves are damaged on the cost . It’s had a compression test and it’s ok . I’m being told it’s a head gasket and it needs skimming and all sorts to get fixed. My question is it worth it 2008 car. I’ve had the coolant flushed as there was small signs of oil in the coolant cap . It’s very hard to know what to do with it . Don’t want to spend out and then find engine damage that is catastrophic

It's an interference engine and when the belt goes it can damage the valves . If they say the compressions are o.k , then the valves cant be damaged . You could replace the timing belt only , as a temp measure to run engine and see how it is . If ok you can then get the head gasket done , head skimmed and timing belt kit with water pump replaced also . Provided there is no other damage when head removed and checked and pressure tested. Get a quote of them for different scenarios , then dependent on the cars overall condition , length pf MOT etc . you can decide best course of action . Hope this helps you .
