Citroen C2 ecu died

Car: Citroen C2
Variant: 1.1 petrol
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The ECU has been diagnosed by a citroen dealer to have destroyed itself causing my car to simply crank but no longer start. they have quoted me £1000 for the part itself and then said it would be more in labour and reprogramming the blank ECU to the car. im not bothering to pay or listen to that guidance because well I feel im having my leg pulled for money. my question is that I have purchased a second hand fully working ECU off ebay with the exact same numbers on it and wanted to know as to if I am to have to car reprogrammed or once fitting should it start once ive synched the key.

Send it off to a repair specialist like "BBA REMAN"
they can test it/repair it and it'll be plug and play,
no re coding.
S/H can give problems and usually needs the full set of ECU's and keys.

If I do get the ecu I've bought reprogrammed will that allow me to use the car so that I can send off the other as I've already purchased it now

I'm unsure.
there's other ECU modules that have to be communicated with.
All I can suggest is try it and see.
I'd probably be helpful if you had Citroen diagnostics.

My other major concern is you state the "car" killed the ECU?
How?
Has the fault been found/rectified?
If not ANY ECU fitted is likely to suffer the same fate!!!

The car has been in citroen now on there machine and they're the ones to tell me that the ecu has failed. I have purchased another one with the same hardware and software numbers I'm just hoping that I can have my current key coded to the new ecu I've bought

So still no explanation as to what killed the original ECU.

No idea. Put a replacement ecu on it today and the fuel pump is now engaging. The car still won't start of which I'm sure is down to the key. I have ordered the transponder that matches the exact ecu of which I just need to transfer my blade onto it and hopefully it should be a go of not I'm assuming it'll be programming the next stage to the all exspensive c2 !!!

It sounds to me like the BSi has failed and that's what you have bought...if its already been used you wont be able to reprogram the transponder code into it and there is also the engine management ecu to consider.

I have bought the engine ecu. And the key with matching transponder codes not the bsi
