Citroen C2 remote central locking won't work

Car: Citroen C2
Variant: 1.1 manual
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi This problem started a couple of days ago. As far as I can understand there was nothing that happened to cause it.

The remote central locking does not work. I have abserved that the battery light stays on and flashes for a minute or two after taking the key out of ther ignition.

The internal central locking button works fine. Problem is that there is no manual locking alternative and I can't lock the passenger door or boot once out of the car.

I have tried following the key reset instrictions in the manual but no change.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi thanks for answering. Yes I'm pretty sure it's ok. I also tried the spare key.

Strange thing is that it worked briefly after I first noticed the fault then stropped working again.

If I read the manual right on resetting the key I did the following:
1. manually unlocked car door
2. opened door (obvious I know!)
3. put key into ignition within 10 seconds
4. turned ignition on but not starting the engine
5. pressed lock/unlock button for about 10 seconds (I tried separate times)

Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Thanks

Hi,

I had the same problem and as whittinghame suggests I had to change the key remote battery.
It did fix the problem though.

Hi Simon. i know that its a late response but here goes. i had a similar problem with citroen c2 VTR. I had to change my communication module located under the steering wheel but you would have to remove the steering air bag than the steering wheel to get to it. Please get a competent person to help change this unit.

Hi again

An update and recurring problem.

I took this to a Citroen specialist in Loughborough 6 months ago. They called in an auto electrician who reset the BSI and apparently cured it.

6 months later it just happened again. No apparent cause. I took it back and the same guy looked at it and said it was a completely different fault. Apparently it was showing fault codes last time and none now. He had no idea and said it could be a wiring problem. He said he could 'try' to diagnose it but it could be very expensive. Obviously didn't have a clue and didn't want the work.

So now I'm stuck (again) with a car that doesn't lock. the Citroen specialists also took the car to a neighbouring garage with relevant equipment, but they couldn't find the problem either. THeir final advice was to take it to Citroen main dealer for a diagnostic. As the auto electrician uses the same kit I can't see the point. The Citroen specialist did give me an MOT I didn't ask for and replaced my back exhaust box to pass it. Great help!

Any thoughts welcomed. Simon

Hi I have a c2 1.4 design 06 plate with a similar problem and did find that you can lock the car through the tailgate with a broom handle by pressing the button on the dash.
Or I eventually took the drivers door panel off and disconnected the wiring from the door lock enabling you to lock the passenger door and tailgate with the button on the dash and manually locking the car with the key. obviously this doesn't fix the problem but you can at least lock the car.

Hi
I don't know if this helps anyone but you can lock a c2 by putting the drivers window down closing all the doors , then lean into the car through the window lock the car using the centre button then pull the window switch so it closes by its self then take the key out of the ignition before the window closes that way all doors are locked :)
