Chrysler Grand Voyager intermittent starting problems

Car: Chrysler Grand Voyager
Variant: 2.8 diesel
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Every now and again the car will not start. On calling the RAC they bashed the starter motor and it worked straight away. They said it was a faulty starter motor and i replaced it with a brand new chrysler starter motor. The problem still persists intermittently and when i bash the new starter motor the vehicle starts again.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
Thanks
