BMW 5 Series overheating

Car: BMW 5 Series
Variant: 528 touring
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
It is a new buy,the previous owner thought was a problem with the expansion bottle, and so replaced it.
This has not solved the issue, and taking it to a reputable mechanic, if you remove the expansion bottle cap, when starting the engine, water is jetted from the vessel like a geyser
The head has been checked,no problems, no damage to the headgasket, where do I go from here ?
